To view the
software version, complete the following steps:
1. Turn
unit on.
2.
Press the Menu button twice, bringing up the Main Menu page.
3. Using the rocker pad, highlight System.
The software
version will be displayed in the lower-righthand corner of the screen.
This software
is the current production software for the GPSMAP 295 as of 04/5/00
and adds/corrects the following:
- Increased
visibility of the CDI scale on the HSI by reducing the width
of the pointer and airplane.
- ETE times
less then 1 hour are displayed with the seconds smaller than
the minutes to visually differentiate between hours:minutes
(HH:MM) and minutes:seconds (MM:SS).
- While using
the map pointer on the MAP page or HSI page the user can press
the nearest key to find POI's, EXIT's and CITY's nearest to
map pointer.
- Added bearing
and distance to spell-n-find list for POI's and CITY's.
- Display
duplicate aviation ids on the aviation tab page.
- Battery
change will reset the battery timer.
- Added "Aviation
In" data mode.
- Corrected
"TRACK" value on active route page.
- Corrected
"VNAV PROFILE" field arrow direction on vnav tab page.

is uploaded to a GPS unit other than the product for which it is designed,
you will not be able to operate that unit. If attempts to upload software
fail, you may need to return the unit to GARMIN for service.

System
requirements |
The following are required to upload the software update into your GARMIN
GPS unit:
- IBM-compatible
PC with Pentium Processor running Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows
NT 4.0 operating systems and an available Com 1, 2, 3, or 4 port.
- PC Interface Cable
for your GPS unit. The PC Interface Cable may be purchased through your
local GARMIN distributor or ordered directly from our Sales department
(1-800-800-1020).

Instructions
for uploading the new software to your unit: |

Download the appropriate self-extracting zip file for your GPS unit
into a directory on your hard drive. (i.e., c:\garmin).
- Unzip the files
into this directory by running the executable file (.exe).
- Connect your GPS
unit to a free serial port (Com 1, 2, 3, or 4) on your PC with a PC
Interface cable.
- Turn on your GPS
unit and ensure the Interface setup is set to "GRMN/GRMN HOST," "GARMIN,"
or "DATA TRANSFER SLAVE" mode, depending on the specific GARMIN model.
- Change to the directory
in which you unzipped the files, (i.e., c:\garmin) and run this update
program: updater.exe. Select the appropriate serial port and click "OK"
to begin the software upload. During the upload, the units display will
indicate "Software Loading...." The upload process should take approximately
3-10 minutes to complete. When the upload process is complete, the unit
will reset itself and turn on normally.
